My husband has recently started a job which allows me to stay at home and I’m really excited about it. So far I really don’t know what to do with myself since I’m so used to getting up and going to work every day but I think I’m going to cook a lot more and probably try and work on my novel. He’s put me in charge of all the house stuff like cleaning and cooking and doing laundry and I’ve taken over paying the bills, too. I recently looked into Electric Companies Texas has to offer so I can make sure we’re getting the best rate and I also talked to a fence man about fencing in the back yard. It’s nice being at home mostly because I’m far more flexible for meeting people out at the house and generally just can do what I want when I want instead of being on someone else’s schedule. I know I’m going to have to fight off boredom at certain points and that’s okay – there’s something to be said for being bored nowadays and I don’t know that many people really give themselves the opportunity to be bored anymore. Who would have thought after all these years I’d be anxious to sit at home and do nothing? I know it makes my husband feel good to be able to provide so well for his wife that she doesn’t have to work but I told him when we started this gig that if I started to feel like I was wasting away I reserved the right to go back to work. I like being a “kept woman” but I want to have the option, you know? I think that’s what feminism is all about – having the option to do what you want, when you want to and not having to ask anyone for permission! I can’t wait to read more books about feminism, actually. I’ll have to put that on my list of things to do.
